O'hAinlighe (Hanly) of Kinel Dobhtha

The townlands of Ballykilcline are located in an area historically known as Kinel Dobhtha or Cenel Dofa, later anglicized as Doohyhanley or Hanly Country. The area traces to Dubhthach (Dofa), son of Aengus and grandson of Erc the Red. He was the first chief of Kinel Dobhtha and through his lineage the Hanly clan traces to many kings of Ireland, the last of whom was Eochaidh Moighmeodhin, the 124th King of Ireland who reigned from A.D. 353-360.

We have a eighty (plus) page history of the O'hAinlighe's (Hanly's) in Kinel Dobhtha which traces the family back to the earliest Kings and, through legend, to Milesius, the King of Spain and his predecessors, the Scythians. It also includes the names and townlands of many Hanly's recorded in Griffith's Primary Valuation, the Tithe Applotment Books the Books of Survey (Cromwellian confiscations) and many other old and ancient sources. I would be happy to make you a copy for free however, as I'm sure you can appreciate, I do request that you send a check for $15.00 to cover the postage and handling. Send your check and name and address to Peter Hanley, 1108 Basil Road, McLean, Virginia 22101. Also please indicate if you wish to be advised of future updates as this document will continue to be expanded. Please add your e-mail address for these notices. Thank you, Pete Hanley.
